When Steam Treatment Becomes Essential
For households with pet allergies or odor concerns despite regular cleaning, we recommend 275°F steam treatment quarterly:
- Dander denaturation. High-temperature steam denatures the proteins that make dander allergenic. Steam-treated carpets and upholstery produce fewer allergic reactions even though physical dander may remain.
- Odor elimination. Pet odors result from bacterial breakdown of organic compounds. Steam eliminates odor-causing bacteria rather than masking smells with fragrance.
- Urine treatment. For properties with pet accidents, steam penetrates carpet padding and subfloor materials where urine has absorbed. Surface cleaning cannot address contamination that has penetrated beyond surface level.
